Recent Forays into Watercolor

I consider myself to primarily be a digital artist. That being said, I still do really enjoy working with traditional mediums, for reasons including:

  1. A typical day for me consists of blasting myself in the face with digital screens for many, many hours on end. Working on paper is a lovely break from that bombardment.

  2. Understanding traditional techniques and textures is highly informative for digital art. I like to emulate watercolor and gouache styles in my digital paintings, so the more I understand how the actual paints intact on paper, the more closely I can mimic it with Photoshop.

  3. There is something special about having an original piece to hold and to give to other people.

  4. Traditional painting (for me at least) is more unpredictable than digital art, so often it's a surprise what I finish with in the end.

So, with all that in mind, here are a few images I painted in watercolor in a sketchbook. I'm still new to watercolor and I've got a long ways to improve, but I've had so much fun with these.
